The ZIKOMO Project continues to inspire children and young people across Zambia through Street Handball. By creating fun, inclusive, and active experiences, participants develop teamwork, fair play, confidence, and healthy lifestyles while strengthening community connections.
Here is a look at three recent ZIKOMO Project Street Handball events that brought together children and youth in Lusaka and Chipata, creating smiles, friendships, and unforgettable experiences both on and off the court. Thanks to Joseph Daka (from Chikondi Sports Youth Arise Foundation) who is the fair play coach for the events.
Event 1: Street Handball Pop-Up session at North Star School in Lilanda Compound, Lusaka
Today, the ZIKOMO Project conducted an exciting Street Handball Pop-Up session at North Star School in Lilanda Compound, Lusaka.
The session attracted enthusiastic children from Pre-Grade to Grade 4. The younger participants were introduced to the basics of street handball, learning how to pass, receive the ball, and take part in fun movement activities. The older children joined in group warm-up exercises before enjoying competitive 3-a-side street handball games.
During the activities, the children demonstrated teamwork and fair play, showcasing excitement, cooperation, and respect for one another throughout the session.
Event 2: Street Handball Community Competition at Twikatane Ground in Lusaka
The ZIKOMO Project successfully conducted a Street Handball Community Competition at Twikatane Ground in Lusaka. The event attracted four teams and brought together a total of 32 participants, comprising 16 girls and 16 boys.
The competition provided an opportunity for young people to engage in sports, promote Teamwork, Fair Play, and Strengthen Community Participation.
The equal representation of girls and boys also highlighted the project’s commitment to gender inclusion and youth empowerment through sport.
The event was characterized by joy of effort, active participation, and positive community engagement, contributing to the promotion of healthy lifestyles and social development among young people.
Event 3: The Zikomo Project Street Handball Competition held at Groenward Academy in Chipata.
Today, 32 children (both girls and boys) from four different teams (schools) participated in the Zikomo Project Street Handball Competition held at Groenward Academy in Chipata.
The event provided a great platform for young people to showcase their talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship while promoting active participation in sport, fair play, and healthy lifestyles.
